Concept: branding for Make Space for Girls, a space camp for girls 9-14 aimed at nurturing interest in space exploration and related sciences.

Make Space for Girls 🚀✨
Started this exploratory project with a doodle after attempting the “rocket” prompt from the #dailylogochallenge.
Tools: pencil/paper, Adobe Fresco for iPad, Apple Pencil, Photoshop and Illustrator. My main objective was to practice drawing, tracing and refining on my iPad. I learned a lot about drawing directly on screen while fighting the feeling of being behind everyone more adept at iPad drawing 😅 I’m excited to practice more.
In 2005 I attended a (kind of) similar camp called Girls in Research. The objective was to encourage middle-school girls from southeastern Kentucky to pursue careers in drug and alcohol research. Looking back, I had NO idea the goal was that huge. I was just excited to dissect a brain.
While I ultimately chose to study the complexity of the universe through art and design instead of STEM, I watched my peers excel in those fields and I’m fascinated by scientists determined to make life better for us on Earth and beyond.
The STEM gender gap is real. A quick search shows that female participation in STEM careers has likely increased just 10% since 2005. Let’s keep it going.
P.S. I would be THRILLED to one day use design to support scientific research and/or causes related to climate education, sustainability, food science, public health or, of course, space exploration 🔭
